The International Council of Museums, International Committee for Memorial and Human Rights Museums (ICMEMOHRI) 2024 meeting and conference will be in Kigali, Rwanda, on the 28th – 31st of July 2024.

We will begin our conference during the final day of the international conference Listening and Leading: The Art and Science of Peace, Resilience, and Transformational Justice organized by AEGIS Trust to take place in Kigali, Rwanda, 26-28 July, which marks both the 30th anniversary since the 1994 genocide and the foundation of the Isoko Peace Institute. On the 28th, the last session, organized by ICMEMOHRI, will turn the discussion at the conference to the role of memorial and human rights museums. Immediately following, ICMEMOHRI will hold its annual conference, African Memorial and Human Rights Museums Building a More Sustainable Future for Peace, which will take place at the Kigali Genocide Memorial at the invitation of Aegis Trust. We are working diligently on the details of our academic program, which will include addressing decolonization, the role of literature and graphic novels, and performance as a communication tool in museums and a catalyst for the traumatic experiences derived from armed conflict and genocide. The last day, July 31st, will entail site visits to museums in southern Rwanda.
We are in the process of organizing an additional and optional 2-day tour through the National Parks of Rwanda.
